Ahlstrom Filter Paper Equivalent to Whatman Filter Paper |

Selecting the correct filter paper in a particular filtration application is dependant upon the requirements involved by the user. These requirements will determine what type of particle retention and paper grade will be needed. Porosity and flow rate are two factors that determine the particle retention of the papers. Generally qualitative grade papers are used in most laboratory applications where requirements are not stringent.
Ahlstrom, Barcelona, Spain manufactures filter paper for liquid filtration for fluid processing industry and quantitative and qualitative analysis for laboratory market. Ahlstrom offers a complete range of low ash filter papers for general laboratory work that provides you with the correct combination of particle retention, filtration speed, loading capacity and wet-strength. Whatman and MFS equivalent grades are available in cellulosic and micro glass fiber filter papers.

Qualitative filter paper
Ahlstroms’s quality grades of filter papers are used in analytical methods, which determine or identify particulate constituents of a mixture irrespective of the amount present. Qualitative filter papers are often used in routine separation work that requires high purity and consistent performance. All the qualitative grades consist of > 95% super refined – cellulose and linter fibers.
Standard qualitative filter papers are suitable for quadrant folded or gravity flow applications. These grades contain a high level of alpha-cellulose that provides high purity but will weaken when wet.
Wet strengthened grades of qualitative filter papers are manufactured for applications using filter paper in a system or apparatus that operates under pressure or vacuum conditions. These grades contain a small amount of chemically stable, insoluble binding resin that strengthens the natural fiber- to-fiber bonds under wet conditions. The qualitative wet-strengthened filter papers are also used in industrial laboratories.

Ahlstrom 601: pore size 2.5 µ, Medium speed / Ahlstrom 500 A: pore size 5 µ
Ahlstsom 60/500A grades covers a wide range of laboratory applications and is used for clarifying liquids and for rapid filtration of coarser precipitates such as lead sulphate, lead chromate, calcium oxalate, calcium carbonate, aluminium phosphate, barium carbonate and beryllium hydroxide. Ahlstrom 601/ 500A can be used in soil analysis, seed testing and in air pollution to collect dust-laden air and is also commonly used in the food industry to separate foodstuffs from associated liquid or extracting liquid.

Quantitative filter paper
Ahlstroms’s quantitative grades are manufactured from top quality cotton linters using ultra-pure, reverse-osmosis water
and are further treated with dilute acid to remove any remaining organic and inorganic impurities. All quantitative grades
are of extremely high purity, acid washed filter papers designed for use in analytical and gravimetric analysis.

Ahlstrom 74: pore size 2.0 µ, Medium speed
Ahlstrom 74 grade has medium flow rate and good particle retention and is the most commonly used acid-washed filter. It covers a wide range of general ashless filtration applications. It is used for gravimetric analysis of numerous components like cements, copper, clay, bismuth, silicon, iron found in heavy industries such as construction, mining of steel etc. It is also used as a high purity filter for speedy filtering of trace elements such as silver chromate, lead sulphate, zinc and ammonium hydroxides and in general soil analysis for separating solid from aqueous extracts.
Ahlstrom 54: pore size 10 µ, Fast speed
This is a fast filtering grade for rapid filtration of coarse particles and gelatinous precipitates like iron, zirconium and aluminium hydroxides, and cobalt sulfide. Ahlstrom 54 is also used in air pollution testing to determine gaseous compounds. It is recommended for fast analysis procedures for unstable precipitates such as silicon, which requires speedy filtration.
Ahlstrom 94: pore size 1.5 µ, Slow speed
This is an extremely fine retention filter for critical gravimetric analysis of very fine particles such as barium and lead sulphates,
stannic and nickel sulfide, calcium oxalate and calcium fluoride.
